Artist Statement

I paint to explore two divergent parts of myself. Painting is the communion between my inner sense of self and my outward identity that moves and acts in the world.

My process is informed by my remembered history, struggles with self-image, and journey with depression. I seek to open a dialogue that recognizes the fragility, resiliency and complex beauty of mental health.

We all live in two worlds — one external and one internal. Everything outside of us can be measured, photographed, quantified. Time is linear and the clocks are accurate. But everything inside of us is a felt experience and amorphous. Time is slippery and the past and future overlap with the present. I paint the the interaction of these two worlds.
